Lefkada is one of the Greek islands of the Ionian Sea. It is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the island where the ancient poet Sappho jumped to her death and believed to be the true home of Odysseus. It is an island of many names, throughout history, Lefkada, Lefkas, Santa Mavra and Ayamaura.

Barber specialities such as mantolato and pasteli are also made here. Wineries on the island work with local varieties of grape that grow nowhere else in the world.
A causeway links the island to the mainland and so you are able to drive straight onto the island without having to set foot onto a ferry.

By Car- Lefkada is the only Greek island accessible by car, a small floating bridge connects the island to the mainland. You can drive from Athens, a distance of about 385km - approximately 4.5 hours. There are also coach buses leaving every day from Athens and Thessaloniki that arrive in the main town of Lefkada.
By Air- The nearest airport to Lefkada is the Aktion airport at Preveza. Athens to Preveza is a 1 hour flight, and driving from the airport to Lefkada is 20 minutes. Bus connections between Lefkada and Preveza are available.
